Unshaven FUE

Shaved, trimmed, or left entirely unshaven.

Not every FUE procedure handles the hair the same way. Some shave the whole head, some trim a window in the donor area, and some leave the hair entirely unshaven. iGraft Long Hair FUE is fully unshaven: no area is shaved or trimmed at any stage. The first step is an unhurried, doctor-led conversation — not a treatment plan.

The Options

Why the shaving question shapes the whole procedure.

Standard FUE evolved around shaved donor zones because it simplified extraction — not because it served the patient’s life. Each way of handling the hair carries a different trade-off.

01

Fully shaved FUE

The donor area, and often the whole head, is shaved to short stubble. Graft sites are easy to see, but the procedure is visible to everyone.

02

Partial-shave FUE

A trimmed window in the donor area is hidden under longer hair above it. Visibility is reduced, but some of the patient’s own hair is still removed.

03

Unshaven, long hair FUE

No hair is shaved or trimmed. Grafts are taken between full-length hairs, so the surrounding hair stays exactly as it is.

04

A trade-off, not a shortcut

Unshaven FUE is slower and more demanding. It trades operative speed for discretion and design control.

What the Day 0 preview actually means - igraft long hair fue

The Process

How unshaven extraction is carried out.

01

Reading the donor at full length

Density is read across the whole donor zone before extraction, so harvesting stays evenly distributed and the area continues to read as untouched.

02

Selecting between long hairs

Graft sites are partly hidden by surrounding hair, so each follicular unit is selected individually and deliberately.

03

Keeping hair shafts intact

Each graft is excised with its length intact, so the shafts stay clean, oriented, and undisturbed through extraction and storage.

04

Placement at matched angles

Recipient sites are created at angles matched to the surrounding hair, because small deviations are visible against long neighbouring hairs.

The iGraft Approach

No trimmed window. No shaved field.

At iGraft, the unshaven principle applies to the donor zone, the recipient area, and the surrounding hair alike. The patient leaves with their hair worn as they arrived.

01

Unshaven donor and recipient

Both zones stay at their existing length throughout — there is no trimmed window at any point.

02

Design visible on the day

Because transplanted hairs keep their length, the intended hairline can be seen immediately as a Day 0 preview — a view of the design, not the final density.

03

A donor protected for the long term

Extraction is gentle and evenly balanced, so the donor reserve is preserved for any future needs.

04

Same biology, different experience

Unshaven FUE follows the same growth timeline as any FUE. What changes is how the patient experiences the procedure and recovery.

Familiarity During Recovery

A familiar appearance, throughout the process.

Because nothing is shaved, healing happens beneath the patient’s own length. Aftercare — sleep position, washing, sun exposure, physical activity — still matters to the outcome.

01

Day 0

No shaved zones and no trimmed window. The patient leaves looking essentially as they arrived.

02

Days 3–7

Gentle aftercare. Most patients return to their routine within days, though individual healing varies.

03

Months 3–6

Temporary shedding of transplanted shafts settles. Early growth is generally visible from around month three.

04

Month 12

The full character of the result settles across roughly twelve months, and is reviewed in person.

Who May Be Suitable

Not every patient is suited to unshaven FUE, and the responsible answer is often non-surgical guidance, medical referral, or a recommendation to wait and re-assess. Where it is appropriate, suitability tends to follow a clear set of patterns.

01

Visibility matters

Patients for whom a shaved or trimmed recovery is not workable, at work or at home.

02

Preserved donor reserve

Stable density at the back and sides of the scalp, evaluated personally for calibre and long-term reliability.

03

Design over maximum volume

Standard FUE is often chosen for the largest graft volume in a single session. Unshaven FUE suits patients who prioritise discretion and design.

04

Realistic expectations

Final density depends on donor quality, graft yield, and the agreed plan — not on the technique alone.

Results

A result that reads as your own hair.

Outcomes are reviewed privately and discussed only in the context of the patient’s own pattern and goals. Results vary between individuals, and no specific outcome can be promised.

Frequently Asked

Considered questions.

The questions most often raised before a private assessment — answered with the same restraint as the practice itself.

01

Partial-shave FUE trims a small window in the donor area, usually hidden under longer hair above it. Unshaven FUE trims nothing: every graft is taken between full-length hairs.

02

No. The donor zone, the recipient area, and the surrounding hair remain intact. There is no trimmed window and no shaved field at any point.

03

Graft sites are partly hidden by surrounding hair, and angles must be matched exactly against long neighbouring hairs. The slower pace is what allows discretion and design control.

04

Donor density is read carefully and extraction is balanced, so the donor area is designed to remain undetectable. Individual results vary.

05

Not necessarily. Keeping hair long does not by itself make transplanted follicles grow better. The advantages relate to discretion and visual planning; growth depends on candidate selection, graft handling, and aftercare.
